Whitsunday
Whitsunday (Pentecost) is a moving holiday that is celebrated 50 days after Easter. Whitsunday is celebrated first and foremost at the Podmotsa tsässon and Luhamaa church. Shrines are erected for Whitsunday and homes, chapels, and churches are adorned with birch branches and eggs painted yellow. As is the tradition in Setomaa, the holiday begins with a church service, followed by a procession to the cemetery for a picnic. In Podmotsa, Whitsunday is celebrated on a Sunday, while in Luhamaa it is celebrated on a Monday.
Guests are kindly requested to come in small groups and to respect local customs.
