St. George's Day
May 6, or St. George's Day (jüripäev) is the most important holiday for the Värska Church, because the patron saint of the Värska Church is St. George or Püha Jüri. The St. George's Day celebration begins with a ceremony in the Värska Church, followed by a visit to the graveyard for a picnic in memory of the departed. Around noon, people gather for the village party, or kirmas. This freeform party is a good opportunity to hear Seto leelo songs and traditional music, and to see proud folk costumes and taste local food and drink.
Guests are kindly requested to come in small groups and to respect local customs.
