Feast of the Transfiguration

This day, the Feast of the Transfiguration, is the most important day of the year for the Setos around Obinitsa.

The observance of the holiday begins a day earlier with an evening church service and procession to the shore of Obinitsa lake. The day itself, 19 August, begins with a morning church service at the wooden church in Obinitsa, followed by a graveside repast to honour ancestors.

In the afternoon, song and dance is on tap at the Seto studio gallery, and late at night, a party outside the community centre.

We kindly ask visitors to attend in small groups to respect local customs.
