Sõir or cheese making day

Traditional sõir or homemade cheese making day introduces the Saatse area as a parish known for curds products. Sõir, (a regional homemade cheese made by heating curds with butter and egg) is made at the museum, and members of the community will compete at a sõir making competition. Visitors can taste sõir from the Saatse nulk area, learn to make the speciality themselves at home, and the best cheesemaker and most interesting sõir packaging will be selected. There will also be a craft and farm wares market, a crafts corner, activities for kids and workshops on foods made from curds as well as on milk coagulation. OÜ Toomemäe farm’s home cafe will be open on the museum lawn, offering Seto-style treats made from fresh quark especially in honour of Sõir Day, which celebrates sõir, the local cheese product made from curds.
The event begins at 11:00. Admission to the exhibition costs 2€, and 1€ for those eligible for a discount. The sõir activties on the museum lawn are free of charge. The event ends at 16:00 with the best sõir maker announced.
