Meeksi Church

Miikse Orthodox Church was built, just like the Obinitsa Church, in 1952, during Stalin's lifetime, to replace an older church. So strong was the desire and will of the community that they were able to erect a church at this difficult time. Miikse's patron saint is St. John the Baptist. St. John's Day is therefore the church's most important holy day and is celebrated according to the Orthodox calendar on 7 July On  6 June, the evening before the holiday, there is a bonfire in Miikse, a service is held, and relatives are commemorated.
